Anthurium Jungle King

Anthuriums are found in tropical America, where 600 species exist. This Anthurium Jungle King is originally from the Amazon. Anthuriums form many small flowers on a flowering flask around which a bract grows. There are many different types of those. The Jungle King, however, has the largest leaves. It immediately gives every interior a “jungle touch”. This variant is therefore also supplied without flowers!

Did you know there are more than 600 species of Anthurium?

Did you know that the leaves of this plant can grow to up to one metre in length?

Unique properties of this plant

Anthuriums are easy to take care of. A good spot and a regular watering is all this beautiful plant needs. Ideal for plant lovers without green thumbs!

Our Fair Flora score

Fachjan has achieved 3 stars for all plants. View the explanation below.

Status: achieved for all products

An up-to-date footprint calculation has been made of the product. This gives the grower insight into the environmental performance of the product. He uses this to make an impact reduction plan, with which he expects to achieve a reduction of at least 5% in two years. He is also transparent about the results of the calculation and the reduction plan.

Fachjan has done a footprint calculation, in which it was immediately obvious how much impact gas consumption has on the total CO2 emissions per product. In recent years, Fachjan has done a lot to get this down with the help of geothermal heat, what we expect to see now in a lower footprint. Due to a state-of-the-art company with exterior screens and the latest heating technology, the environmental impact is currently low. By installing solar panels, the CO2 emissions will decrease further. And by looking critically at our starting material, we try to prevent waste.

We are also doing more in the area of import in terms of cost-saving initiatives. The boats we use all have low sulfer fuel. That is slightly more expensive, but much better for the environment.

Status: achieved for all products

The grower is aware of his duty as an entrepreneur to treat his staff well and demands the same from his suppliers. He confirms this by signing the CSR statement.

The CSR statement has been signed by Fred Janssen. Fachjan has signed a CSR statement because we see the importance of doing business neatly. In addition, we also want our suppliers to be treated properly, but also to treat their staff and suppliers well. We visit our suppliers regularly and try to do a little extra by paying our suppliers and sub suppliers a fair price. Our suppliers who deliver products to IKEA have already signed the statement as well.

Status: achieved for all products

The grower is aware that sustainability goes beyond what happens at his own nursery. That is why he only buys peat, paper and cardboard if it is of responsible origin. He is also actively involved in waste separation. Although the grower is actively reducing his impact, there will probably still be an impact that has not (yet) been eliminated. The CO2 impact that he still has is therefore compensated for the Fair Flora products.

Fachjan tries to market its products as sustainably as possible. We believe this can be done in 2 ways.

  1. Maintaining lasting relationships. By creating a chain where you give each other something, in our eyes creates a more sustainable chain. This is because everyone is willing to run a little harder for each other. In this way we pay a good and fair price to our suppliers and we are prepared to invest in our suppliers’ farms and in their environment. Examples are water pipes that we have installed to increase production, helped financing a new farm and invested in a basketball court in the Philippines and a church in Guatemala where many employees of our supplier go. We think that this increases the willingness to do something and improves the quality. This ensures less waste. By delivering good / strong products and thinking along with the customer, we also hope to be an added value for our customer.
  2. Fachjan tries to burden the environment as little as possible. Examples are:
    1. Greenhouses are heated by means of geothermal heat.
    2. Outdoor screen is energy efficient in winter and keeps the heat outside in the summer, creating better conditions for our staff.
    3. Underfloor heating for optimum consumption.
    4. Docks that close when a car comes to load, so there is no waste.
    5. Waste separation.
    6. Use of biological control wherever possible and use of as many non-chemical substances as possible.
    7. Recirculation of water, no discharge of water.
    8. Storage of rain water to water the products.

A nursery has to do with its environment, such as nature, other companies and local residents. These should be relieved as much as possible or, if possible, even profit from the presence of a nursery. Staff members, suppliers and customers are also involved in this: they should try to avoid transport movements as much as possible and to plan for times that are favorable to local residents. Natural enemies should be used as much as possible to defend the plants in order to protect employees and the surrounding nature. Other crop protection should be of biological origin, with chemical agents only used in an emergency. The water cycle at the company should be completely closed: no water discharge.

  • With us, loading takes place both at the front and at the rear of the company. At night only at the rear, where almost no one is bothered by the loading.
  • Control is largely biological.
  • No water is discharged.
  • Fachjan often sponsors plants at local parties.
  • We also sponsor local initiatives such as handball and football of Quintus.
  • We sponsor a badminton tournament where staff participates.
  • We sponsor 2 teams of Westlandia indoor football.
  • We sponsor the Westland sailing flower parade every year.

The production of many flowers and plants uses non-renewable resources such as natural gas, peat and fertilizer. For the fourth star, during the production of a plant, only renewable resources are used. For example, green electricity and green gas, a maximum of 25% peat and fertilizer.

Fachjan has participated in a geothermal heat project to heat our greenhouse complex (headquarters). As a result, our gas consumption will fall by as much as 90%! We also sell heat to the neighbors, which means we produce more heat than we can use ourselves. As mentioned, Fachjan will invest in solar panels in 2018, for which the subsidy has already been requested.
